Project was presented by the Jim Maher of the CCLRC. Mark Smith from the Famicos Foundation is available for comment.  Famicos would like to request that the primary facade be maintained to build off of in the future.

Committee Questions, Comments, Concerns

  • Is it an assumption that the building has to go in order to complete the clean-up?
  • What is the condition of the building?
  • Do you know specifically where the tanks are located?  There are two primary tanks and two smaller tanks on the site.
  • Concern that the Glenville community will lose another architecturally significant building, and there is no site plan to show what the future use of the site will be.
  • Is it possible to do the core drilling through the ground floor to confirm the soil contaimination and subsequent demolition.
  • Is it possible to perform the clean-up and keep the building or at least the primary facade.
  • Can more investigation happen in the meantime? Because the committee does not feel that there is enough information to make a decision today.
  • Can the environmental consultant put together a report that assumes the building will remain.

Motion to table for the proposed demolition to return with more information on the soil borings and the full environmental consultant's report.

Demolition presented by Jim Maher of the Cuyahoga County Landbank.  Mr. Maher presented additional details on the findings from the soil borings and the environmental report. Proposed to remove 400 tons of contaminated soil, underground storage tanks, and the required demolition of the building to complete the clean-up.

Committee Questions, Comments, Concerns

·         If the building has to be demolished can the largest tree be saved on site?  It could really help to anchor the park as a future optional use for the site.

·         Can further due diligence be done on saving the structure or a portion of the structure?  The NPS has information on how to save small gas stations.

·         Does Famicos have a plan or concept for how they would like to use the structure or a portion of the structure?

Motion to disapprove the demolition as presented, voted 5-1.
