Motion to table with the client to resubmit.

The Design Review Committee has concerns over the following items:

1). Provide cover or shelter for bike racks / skateboards

2). Rename the school (the current Fullerton is a placeholder)

3). Clad the entry and administration room all as one – material in the middle of the plan should not change

4). Possibility of spandrel glass on the front elevation/rendering

5). Missed opportunity for natural light. The building feels closed off with too many solid walls and narrow windows (flip auditorium)

6). Lack of engagement of the building with the street—should be able to see through the building to a courtyard or similar

7). Consider a recessed canopy – current canopy seems too deep and therefore dark, not welcoming

8). Consider replacing corrugated metal panels

9). Need for a vertical break on the left side of the rendering – this portion of the building looks “chunky” or “squatty.” Windows could stand to be taller – also a vertical break would help the school better relate to the houses across the street

10). Design review committee stressed that zoning code should not stand in the way of good design. If entryway needed to be taller, variance would be supported.

1) Insure that the banding transition is complete after turning corners

2) Reconsider the brick banding colors on north and south building sections reflect consistency with how the brick coloration makes the building feel

3)Study adding or redistributing proposed glazing (windows)

Motion to approve as presented with the recommendation to adjust the banding on the two windows bays on the eastern facade, south of the main entrance and to add three trees to the corner of E. 75th Street and Canton Ave.
