Towpath Trail: Stage 4
Estimated Completeion Date: 2014
The fina l and crowning section of the Towpath Trail runs from I-490 and Clark Fields in the south to Canal Basin Park in the north.
The first segment runs along an old utility corridor with several interesting remnants of old industrial buildings and bridges.
The next stretch of Stage 4 runs along the bluffs below the Tremont Neighborhood and yield s fantastic, scenic views of downtown Cleveland and the Cuyahoga River Valley.
The final segment winds through the West Bank of the Flats before crossing the Cuyahoga River and terminating at Canal Basin Park.
The final stage of the Towpath Trail presents challenges in addressing the needs of industries and residents in a heavily used section of the trail.
Additionally, the Tremont Bluffs offer only limited widths of unoccupied land where the grade will allow an acceptable route for the trail. Planners are currently working with neighborhood residents and businesses to determine the most effective compromises that will realize the Towpath Trail vision.
The Cuyahoga River crossing will use an existing lift bridge, representing an element of Cleveland’s industrial heritage.
Canal Basin Park is scheduled for upgrading and development in tandem with the completion of the trail. |
