Biography:  
  William Ruggles Watterson was born in Cleveland and was a graduate of the Cleveland Public Schools. He became an apprentice in an architectural office and then studied at Columbia University. In 1894 he returned to Cleveland as a local representative of the George B. Post firm, acting as supervising architect. From 1895 to 1903 he practiced alone. In 1903 he entered into partnership with Charles Schneider, who also had been employed by George Post, forming the firm of Watterson and Schneider.
