Committee Comments:
  • Committee emphasized that applicant should carefully study and plan for the experience of the walkway providing access to and going around the building.
  • Committee asked that applicant study the connector design. Could more glass be used? Study how to frame views of woods and landscaping from inside the connector and building. Building and site design should maximize engagement, for residents and visitors alike, with the beauty of the natural landscape.
  • Entry Perspective Rendering - Remove top mullion on windows so that there are four panes instead of five.
  • A walkway along the new drive would be nice!
  • Committee expreseed some anxiety over suggestion of harvesting materials from existing mother house to be incorporated in new building. Committee would not want to see a scenario where the architectural integrity of the existing mother house is compromised in a way that would diminish opportunities for preservation and re-use of the existing building at some future date.

Committee Notes:

  1. Study smoothing angles of walking path, if possible, provided this doesn't cause problems with snow and ice removal.
  2. Add more trees on the north side of the site to provide additional screening buffer.
  3. Add trees adjacent to easterly detention basin to increase screening of properties to the north. Evergreens recommended.
  4. Landscape beds will appear sparse at the current size and planting density. Consider either increasing planting density or decreasing size of beds.
  5. Study screening chiller & generator to protect from vandalism.
