Sign project was presented by Jessica Ruff of Ruff Neon Sign for a childcare center showing an awning, 2 signs using the phone number, and a primary sign.

Committee Concerns, Comments, Questions

  • The awning pulls everything together and provides a base.
  • The owner did not add an awning over the door because there is a cage over the door, she was concerned that the cage would not properly close.
  • Committee suggested that the awning be open on the sides for natural lighting and suggests a more horizontal form, because it looked very heavy over the window.
  • Another option is to put the sign on awning and add downlighting under the canopy.
  • The Committee felt the telephone number could go on the apron of the awning only once.
  • The Committee suggested that the awning be resized or raised it up so the windows are more clearly seen.
  • The owner would like to remove the painted on alphabet at the base of the storefront to reduce visual clutter.
  • The Committee suggested that a possible solution is to reduce the main signage, and include the phone number on the apron of the awning.

Motion to table for resubmittal until the sign can be redesigned.
