Address: 2200 West 28th Street
Owner/Rep: Hollie Dellasanti, Cleveland Metropolitan School District
Architect: Anne Hartman, Ralph Tyler Companies, Inc.
Description: Construct 2-story, 64,300 S.F. school building accommodating 450 pre-K thru 8th grade students
Notes:
Preliminary steps involve demolition of existing Dunbar School building (already underway), abatement of site (completed), and grading and seeding of site in preparation for new building construction, which is scheduled to begin in January 2012. Sponsor has salvaged 2,500 bricks to be used in nearby neighborhood community gardens.

Proposed new building materials will primarily be masonry - combination of color and textured brick/block as well as accents of colored metal panels. The site will include separate drop-off areas for students arriving by car vs those arriving by bus. Other site features include a playground and open grass areas and locations for community gardening. The project will have LEED Silver designation.

Committee moved to approve the final design development drawings for the school, including site layout, building massing and materials, w/understanding that the sponsor will:

1. Explore moving the angled, head-in parking spaces in front of the Pre-K entrance slightly to the west along Monroe Avenue to eliminate sight line issues due to the presence of an existing mature street tree. It was further suggested that the installation of a mirror be explored to assist motorists in backing out of the angled spaces.

2. Use metal halide-style lighting fixtures for site lighting.

3. Re-examine the 4' space between floors, which the Committee felt was too generous and resulted in the building appearing taller than perhaps it need be. One possible way to accomplish this objective would be to increase the height of the windows along the first floor.
